I have a collection of flags or banners I hang on the wall in my kitchen.
The collection started with a Christmas Cat Angel that my dearest friend, Ira gave me.
Then, I won one in a raffle…Then I started making them……lots of them: One for every month of the year.
(Like the dresses-up Pink Cat) Only constant is that each flag must have at least one cat.
I bought this Haunted Mad Tea Party from a flag seller on eBay. It’s kinda creepy, but it’s Alice in Wonderland themed, so I wanted it, but where’s the cat? Got to have a cat, a Cheshire Cat!

HOW I DID IT (I’m learning to take pics-in-process!)

First picture, flag, as bought.

First step, I used tracing paper to pick up elements of the original to place my Cheshire Cat in the scene.
(i.e. part of his foot is the cross bar of the capital “T” in Treat. Part of his blends into the greenery in the background.)

Second step, I copied the tracing onto white copy paper, so I could then cut out pieces
to use as templates or stencils to mark where the Cat would get painted in. (I used silver magic marker)

Last photo shows finished Cheshire Cat sparkling & faded into the background. Altogether, I’m pleased. Looks almost like it’s part of the original piece, not too glaring an add-on.

One day project.

One week project

One month project

One year project

What I learned/wished I done differently:

  • Bought $8 worth of paint that in retrospect, I could have managed without . Both colors were still not the right shades and had to be tweaked with paint I already had, But the colors are fab & I will find other things to use them for.
  • Wished I hadn’t used silver magic marker to outline. Black marker didn’t cover it later and I had to carefully paint over, adding more detailed work, which I sometimes screw up and have a messed up project.

Did remember to let the paint dry dry dry before added more. I habitually bitchitup ruining paint jobs by being impatient and rushing.
